Our mantra here is simple:
Live your most effervescent life, celebrate yourself, and always leave room for champagne!
My inspiration for this blog is a story every woman can relate to. I've struggled with the scale since childhood. Up 10 pounds, down 5, contorting myself into ungodly positions to zip up my favorite jeans. Feeling less than beautiful, suffering from self-esteem issues, dating guys who were bad for me, settling for less - you know the drill. Until one day I was over it.
After exhausting every dieting option under the sun, I sought the help of a good friend and coworker at MTV who assured me that all I had to do was focus on eating rich, nutritious foods, and exercise. Fair enough. But my burning question was - could I still drink? Mama needs her cocktails. "Of course!" she replied. "Just drink champagne."
Cue dramatic pause.
Champagne? I could drink CHAMPAGNE!? With just under 100 calories in a flute of bubbly, it seemed like the perfect addition to my Happy Hours, and much healthier than sugar-laden cocktails and bloating beer. And come on, who wouldn't want to drink champagne? It was love at first sip. Couple that with the fact that I felt like Zsa Zsa Gabor while drinking it and immediately, I was sold.
Unfortunately, champagne wouldn't suffice as a substitute for daily meals (wouldn't that be fun?) so I started following a wholesome diet awash with fresh veggies, delicious fruits, lean proteins and whole grains. Exercise was a must, but it needn't be rigorous Spin classes or bootcamp routines. I made sure my workouts were enjoyable. I began to view my gym time as "Me Time" and suddenly exercise became just as beneficial for my brain as it did my body. Dessert, of course, would come in the form of a flute (or two) of bubbly or a glass of wine.
And just like that, The Champagne Diet was born.
Although I lost close to 30 pounds on The Champagne Diet, my new-found obsession for all things sparkling went much further than weight loss. And it was more than the calorie count that got me hooked on bubbles. I noticed that whenever I drank champagne, I felt hot. I stood a little taller at the bar when I had my hand wrapped around a delicate flute of bubbly. Champagne made me feel beautiful, luxurious and sexy; things I hadn't felt in years. The way I felt rubbed off on the choices I was making in my life. Before I knew it, I had shed a few pounds, as well as a few bad boyfriends. I was unstoppable.
Champagne became the metaphor for my new life.
Suddenly, I began to celebrate everything - including my flaws. I realized I'd never be that stick thin girl I struggled to be my whole life. Sure, I lost weight, but I still had curves, lumps and bumps, and it was okay. I began to accept everything about myself, and I never felt more confident.
The Champagne Diet is about celebrating our lives, our bodies, and our health, every day. Why should champagne be reserved for swanky parties and New Years toasts? We should be allowing the best into our lives daily. That goes for champagne and all the wonderful things we each deserve: a fabulous career, healthy and loving relationships, good food and all things we are passionate about.
And I'm not just the only one who is on board. The Champagne Diet has been buzzed about in Glamour, Shape, Cafe Mom, NY Mag's Grub Street, The Daily Mail UK, MSN Australia, Cosmopolitan South Africa, AOL UK and many other publications worldwide. POP Champagne Bar in Pasadena, California has even created The Champagne Diet™ menu after one of the owners, Bob Earhart discovered this blog and lost weight following The Champagne Diet himself! You can read Bob's blog here.
I've already published one book inspired by my story, and I have a second one on the way. Feel free to check them out!
This blog tells my story, and I invite you to join me for the ride. I'll post sparkling tidbits about my life and my adventures on The Champagne Diet, healthy recipes and champagne pairings, MOETivational mantras and more. I hope that you can stay awhile!
